This course prepares participants to teach the stage of violin study where reading and ear-based learning begin to work in tandem. Participants examine how to guide students through this shift, helping them use note-reading as a tool that supports rather than replaces the listening skills built in earlier stages.

Participants learn to teach concerto-level repertoire and the demands of longer musical forms, along with second and fourth position shifting and more complex bowings. The course covers how to break these more advanced technical and musical skills into manageable steps, and how to sequence them so students build capability without losing the tone and ease established earlier.

Participants also learn to foster greater independence in how students learn new material, and to develop a more refined sense of musical style at this stage. The course addresses common challenges as students take on longer, more demanding repertoire, and how to troubleshoot them while keeping instruction encouraging and well-paced.
