Overview
For an overview of our publication process and ideas to start your writing process, please see this presentation.
Writing Style
Articles are generally 1,200 to 2,000 words, though this varies depending upon the type and format of the material.
The American Suzuki Journal follows the Chicago Manual of Style, including documentation style. The ASJ requests endnotes where documentation is required. A guide to citation can be found here, and examples of our documentation style can be found in ASJ 49.2: “Developing Independent String Musicians…“.
We reserve the right to edit for style, length, and clarity. Once an article is selected, we will return the manuscript with suggested changes for your approval.
Compensation
Like most professional association journals, the American Suzuki Journal does not offer any compensation to authors, and we do copyright materials published.
Post-publication you will receive complimentary copies of the issue.
How to Submit
Deadlines are July 1, October 1, January 1, and April 1, but we accept manuscripts year-round.
We accept emailed articles as .doc, .docx, or google documents. We will not accept PDFs. Please submit your manuscript using the button below.
Please include a bio of 150 words or less at the bottom of your submission, and send an author photo via email, not embedded in the document.
Photographs are welcome: please be sure they are unaltered and of the highest quality and resolution possible (preferably 300 dpi) and include photo credits. If minors appear in photographs, we must receive permission from a parent or legal guardian to publish the photos. Individual Photo Release
Publication
Expect a turn-around time from submission to decision to publish of one to seven months, depending upon the reproduction schedule.
When a manuscript/article submission is accepted for use, you will receive a copyright release form by email. This is for your protection and ours as well.
Email the editor at editor@suzukiassociation.org with any questions.
Thank you for considering publishing in the American Suzuki Journal.
