Student Fees

In person or online. Some optionals, cello choir not available online; All fees $CDN

• Mini (first or second year at SOSI-students 7 and under) $375
• Junior (Books 1-3) $550
• Intermediate (Books 4-6) $580 (Cello $595, includes Cello Choir)
• Senior (Books 7+) $625 (Cello $640, includes Cello Choir)
• Young Artist Program (in person only, post book 8, by audition) $690 (includes Cello Choir)

• Observers (student classes) $30. Teachers with students enrolled at SOSI observe student classes gratis.

*Please do not book any travel for in-person courses until the course has been confirmed (mid-July). In case of cancellation, tuition fees will be refunded; travel costs can not be.

Scholarships

Daphne Hughes Memorial Bursaries

For Students, Amount: varies, Application due: July 1
Daphne Hughes was a well-loved and respected Suzuki pioneer in Canada. She, along with Gail Lange and Sally Gross, started the Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institute (then the Guelph Suzuki Institute) in 1983. Daphne passed away in July of 2023, and in her memory, her family, colleagues and friends, have created a bursary for both students and teachers who would not otherwise be able to attend SOSI. The amount of each bursary will vary depending on need and available funds. Application deadline is July 1. See more information at the SOSI website: www.mysosi.ca

SAA Teacher Training scholarships

For Teachers, Amount: varies, Application due: February 5
SAA Teacher Development scholarships provide tuition assistance for pedagogy study at approved Summer Institutes, Latin American Festivals, workshops, or through other SAA-approved Teacher Development programs. Decisions are based primarily on merit, with consideration also given to expressed need. Awards are limited to the study of Suzuki book units and the SAA Practicum and paid directly to the Institute, university or sponsoring agency after SAA receives verification of the applicant’s acceptance into the course/program. Suzuki Association of Ontario Training scholarships

Taryn Chaykowski Memorial Bursaries

For Students, Amount: varies, Application due: July 1
Taryn Chaykowski was a young Suzuki teacher from Brantford, Ontario, who sadly passed away in March of 2023. She was a strong supporter of everything SOSI, having come many summers as a child, a teacher trainee, and as a teacher with her own students attending. Donations in her memory support both students and teachers to attend SOSI, with the amount of the bursary varying dependent on need, and available funds. Applications are due by July 1. Housing & Meals

Housing at SOSI can be in one of the many residences at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario. Please see our website www.mysosi.ca for more information on pricing, types of residences available, instructions for how to register for housing, and what meal options are available.

Recreation

Recreational opportunities at SOSI include use of the university’s athletic facilities (at an extra cost), daily craft items that students can make, plus many parks, attractions, and things to do in Waterloo and region. See https://explorewaterloo.ca
