Suzuki in the Schools Level 2

July 28 - August 1

$635.00

The Suzuki method is used in multiple ways in public and private schools. Successful models feature repertoire memory and review, small step sequenced instruction and a curriculum based on mastery learning. All successful models embrace the Suzuki philosophy and foster a positive learning environment for every child. The Suzuki approach can be successful in like-instrument classes and mixed-instrument classes. The Suzuki in the Schools Course Unit I presents strategies for incorporating Suzuki philosophy and methodology in the beginning stages of technical instruction. A sequenced repertoire that supports the technical and musical study of beginning level students in the string class setting will be presented and opportunities for transfer to other learning situations will be discussed. Steps towards the development of aural and interactive ensemble skills will also be explored.

Effective learning sequences that focus on the development of excellent fundamental skills will be the focus of each class session. Participants will acquire a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of learning, and practice creating successful learning experiences that effectively change student thinking and behavior. The course content supports an overarching philosophical approach to creating a learning community of parents, teachers and students that supports the efforts and abilities of all learners. Curricular choices that address diverse classrooms, musical excellence in the group setting, and the effect of listening and review on self-assessment and independence will also be discussed.

Online. Prereqs: ECC, audition, Unit 1, and Suzuki in the Schools Level 1.
