This is a full time salaried position in the Houston ISD. Parker is a Title 1 public magnet school with 50-60 beginning-Book 8 Suzuki trained cellists and approximately 180 violinists.
Duties:
Teach 50-60 Kingertarden-5th grade Suzuki trained cellists. Levels range from beginner-Book 8. Each child gets a semi-private parent attended Suzuki lesson, and 1-3 group classes per week depending on level. Intermediate and Advanced ensembles combine with the violins. You will be working very closely with the three violin teachers.
The school has multiple opportunities for performances. You will be organizing concerts, rehearsals with pianists, a workshop, etc. This group has performed at the SAA conference 2 times in the past 12 years. You will maintain an school owned inventory of 100+ cellos. Each cellist has an appropriately sized instrument given for use.
Qualifications:
Suzuki Book Training through Book 8, Through Book 10 preferred. A general teaching certificate is not required for hire but you will have to be willing to get general teacher certification our first year of employment.
Salary:
HISD starting salary lists as 70, 000 with opportunity for performance pay bonuses to be applied to the next year’s salary.
