Revisiting Book 1 (Violin & Viola)

This 15-hour course is designed for experienced Suzuki teachers who wish to revisit the foundational principles of Suzuki Violin School, Volume 1. Together, we will refresh and deepen our approach to teaching beginning students, guiding them toward a strong technical and musical foundation.

Key areas of study include:

• Laying the groundwork with beginners – nurturing posture, tone production, and essential technique.

• Parent engagement – strategies for working effectively with new Suzuki parents to build confident home practice habits.

• Group class ideas – practical activities and lesson plans for both Pre-Twinkle and Book 1 group settings.

• Teaching points of Book 1 pieces – a review of the core technical and musical concepts embedded in each piece, and how to use them to guide students’ progress.

• Musical development – fostering listening, phrasing, and musicianship from the very first lessons.

The course includes 15 hours of live instruction and 3 hours of asynchronous observation, with carefully selected video observations provided by the instructor. This training may be registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) and is open to all teachers who have completed their SAA Book 1 training and want to renew their perspective with practical, classroom-ready tools.
