Position Summary:
Recruit and teach Suzuki group classes and individual lessons to cello students at elementary through advanced levels. Actively encourage students to participate in other areas of programming at Colburn such as chamber music, theory, and large ensembles when appropriate. Participation in mid-year progress reports and end of the year juries are required.
Essential Duties of the Position:
- Teach non-college beginning, elementary, intermediate and advanced Suzuki and traditional students, as well as Suzuki group classes and Cello Choir.
- Must be available to teach on Wednesdays.
- Must be a collaborative colleague and able to work with a diverse student population.
- Must be able to work with students of all ages and abilities.
Other Required Duties:
- Communicate with parents and with main instructor to address student problems or issues.
- Evaluate students as appropriate in conjunction with main instructor.
- Perform administrative tasks associated with students’ attendance and performance records.
- Provide counseling related to student’s musical development.
- Provide mid-year student progress reports and participate in year-end juries.
- Perform other related duties.
Qualifications:
- Master degree or higher, or equivalent professional experience preferred with significant interest and experience in teaching cello.
- SAA-registered Suzuki Teacher Training through Book 4 required; through Book 8 preferred.
- Active performing/studio career preferred.
- Seasoned teacher with 10+ years teaching experience preferred.
- Ability to contribute to a positive, supportive team environment required.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population required.
- Good communication skills.
Physical:
Must be able to see, hear, feel, and use hands and grasp objects with fingers. Intermittent standing, walking, bending, and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less.
Emotional:
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for extended periods of time and/or intermittently while attending to other responsibilities; ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities.
Working Conditions:
Primarily indoor environment.
Compensation and Benefits: This position is either a part-time or full-time approximately working 18+ hours, working Wednesdays with varied schedule TBD (plus the required minimum 30-minute meal break), and onsite. The pay range is $65 – $90 per hour depending on skills, experience, and ability level.
