What’s Teaching Strategies?
Teaching Strategies is a 10-hour course designed to guide teacher participants to become more effective teachers. It was first offered in Latin America in 1997 and has been implemented widely since then with favorable outcomes. Angelica Cortez, Executive Director of the SAA called it “What may be the most important course in the entire SAA curriculum.” For this reason, starting in January 2025, Teaching Strategies will be a prerequisite for Unit 3. Teachers who have already taken Unit 3 or higher are not required to take Strategies, although it is highly recommended to all Suzuki teachers.
Who can enroll:
Teaching Strategies is designed for teachers who have already registered Violin Unit 2 or above and available to anyone who wishes feedback on their teaching and has registered at least Unit 1. Unit 1 prerequisites are ECC/Filosofia and an audition.
How it works:
Each participant will submit 2 recordings of 6-10 minutes each, or, if preferred, a teacher may teach one or both lesson segments in person. At least one of the recordings should be of an individual lesson. Class sessions are similar to a “pedagogy masterclass” where up to 10 participants watch their recordings together and receive positive comments and constructive feedback from the trainer.
Please contact nora.friedman@bkcm.org with questions.
You must attend all classes to receive credit with the SAA.
