Suzuki in the Schools Courses 2020: Reaching every child in schools and studios

for timely ways to prepare literacy skills, and for  teaching sequences to introduce ensemble concepts?  Are you looking for new ways to expand and improve your  teaching and to evaluate your own teaching and your  students’ learning? 

Are you seeking ways to develop excellence in a school or  class setting, to engage all students in a class situation, and  to educate and involve parents in varying situations?  

For information and discussion of all of these topics, we  invite you to enroll in a Suzuki in the Schools course in the  near future. The Suzuki in the Schools courses, curriculum,  and framework have been renewed and are being offered  once again. Level One is being offered at institutes in Utah  in June, New York in July, and Connecticut in August this  summer. Level One and Level Two will be offered long term  in the St. Louis area in the fall. Level Two will be offered in  Buffalo in Summer of 2021.  

Level Three is in preparation and will be offered in  the future. 

The Suzuki in the Schools course framework covers  important concepts and teaching strategies for string  teachers working in group settings in schools and for string  studio teachers who seek expanded repertoire teaching  concepts, new ideas for group teaching, new approaches  to learning by ear in a classroom setting, efficient ideas  

to assess reading readiness and to transition to literacy,  and developed sequences for teaching ensemble skills.  Each class will include lecture and discussion of aspects

of  Suzuki philosophy, methodology, technique, logistics, and a  variety of appropriate materials. Time will be designated for  observation, collaborative learning, and individual projects.  Please plan to bring a string instrument, as much of the class  involves interactive teaching and application. 

The Level One Course presents strategies for the applica tion of Suzuki philosophy and methodolog y in the  beginning stages of technical and musical instruction in  a group or class teaching situation. The first course begins  in the Pre-Twinkle/preparatory stages of instruction and  continues through Rigadoon level of repertoire/technique  for all string instruments. The principle focus is achieving  excellence in group or class instruction, but all strings  teachers will benefit from having more ways to approach  aspects of technique and musicianship and having more  strategies to teach every child successfully.  

Level One course is designed for all strings teachers who  have at least completed ECC and Suzuki Unit One on their  primary instrument. The course includes 25 hours of  lecture/discussion, instruction and observation. We hope  to see many of you at the conference in May at the Suzuki in  the Schools sessions and at courses in the future. Please join  us in bringing the Suzuki method to every child!
