The Revisiting SECE Stage One course is designed for teachers who have registered ECC! and a minimum of SECE Stage One. It aims to strengthen and update one’s teaching by approaching the class, the repertoire and its concepts from a fresh
perspective. This course is a valuable experience both for experienced teachers and also those who are near the beginning of their SECE teaching journey. For those teachers who have not taught SECE Baby/Toddler classes after taking the SECE Stage One course, taking this Revisiting course is recommended before continuing with Stage Two training. Discussions cover the foundation of SECE Stage One, including the importance of the Suzuki approach to early education, the Seven Concepts of the Suzuki philosophy, prenatal and postnatal learning environment, baby/toddler class
curriculum and goals, equipment used in class, team teaching approach, sequence of the baby/toddler class, teaching strategies, and parent education.
Eligibility:
- Current active SAA membership
- Completion of Every Child Can (ECC!) and course registration with the SAA
- Completion of SECE Stage One and course registration with the SAA
- This course is beneficial for experienced teachers who have taken multiple stages of SECE training, and also those who are near the beginning of their
- SECE teaching journey.
- This course is also recommended for teachers who have not yet taught SECE Baby/Toddler classes after taking Stage One, before they continue with Stage Two training.
Format:
- Maximum of 15 participants (in-person), 10 participants (online), minimum two participants
- No auditors
- The current SAA registration fee is required for each participant to register the course. 100% attendance is necessary for such registration.
- 18 hours: 15 hours of class time plus 3 hours of SECE Baby/Toddler
- Demonstration Classes for observation, to be held in-person over a minimum of three days with no more than 6 hours per day. If there is an online component to the course, it will take place over a minimum of 4 days (details to be determined by the Trainer and/or Institute Director).
- Format includes lecture, small group discussion, SECE Baby/Toddler class observation, and demonstration of the class activities, teaching points and the Seven Concepts. TWPs will be given opportunities to lead activities in the SECE Baby/Toddler demonstration classes when possible.
- Course Content may include all topics covered in SECE Stage One:
- Discussion of the 7 SECE concepts and their importance in the weekly SECE classes
- The importance of the Suzuki approach to early education
- The prenatal and post-natal learning environment
- The baby/toddler class curriculum and goals
- The equipment used in class
- The team teaching approach
- The sequence of the Baby/toddler class curriculum
- Teaching strategies
- Musical integrity
- A brief introduction to prenatal music stimulation
- Parent Education
- Discussion of a minimum of three hours of Baby/Toddler Class observation/demonstration classes
Observations:
- A minimum of three hours of SECE demonstration Baby/Toddler Classes is required for TWP observation and/or participation.
- The entire three hours of class observation time will be a shared experience with the trainer and all the participants, regardless of the venue (live, online, recorded, etc.).
- Demonstration classes for observation may be live-in-person, recorded-in-person, live-online, and/or recorded-online. The combination of types of classes will be at the discretion of the trainer.
- Demonstration classes will include at least one example of an entire one-hour class of “Week One” curriculum and an entire one-hour class of “Week Two” curriculum.

- A pre-course questionnaire will be sent by the SECE Trainer to all TWPs to be completed prior to the course.
