Barber’s newest book, Violin Fingerboard Geography, Volume 1, explores the fundamentals of finger patterns, note-finger-staff association, intervals, theory, shifting, double-stops and chords. Every student can play with excellent intonation, using a combination of aural, visual and tactile senses. From beginning to advanced literature, teachers will learn to take the guesswork out of teaching students to play in tune!

Monday, November 22

Splendid Spiccato!
9 to 11:30 a.m. Teacher training
11:30 Lunch
12:30 to 3 p.m. Teacher Training

Playing Mozart in Suzuki Volume 10 with an accomplished spiccato begins in Volume 1! Beginning with the basics of a relaxed, flexible bow hold in Volume 1 and the introduction of a loose detaché in Volume 2, teachers will learn the basics of the spiccato stroke and its variants – collé, piqué, ricochet, sautille and saltando – for violinists and violists. Using the Suzuki literature (including Bohm Perpetual Motion in Revised Suzuki Violin, Volume 4) and supplementary pieces, we will explore these assorted techniques, learning how introduce them to students in the early books and continue their effective development through the repertoire.

This 10 hour (2 day) seminar may be registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas as Enrichment Study. Teachers should bring violins, music stands and Suzuki Violin School, Volumes 1-8. In addition, please bring Barbara Barber’s Violin Fingerboard Geography, Volume 1 and Solos For Young Violinists, Volumes 1-5 if already owned.

Online Registration forms are now available on the PSMP website. To reserve a spot, fill out the registration form and wait for an email confirming that there is a spot available for you, then pay a $60.00 deposit at www.pasadenasuzuki.org/teachertraining
