The <strong>goals <\/strong>of the program are to :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide an opportunity for positive and continual feedback on the Suzuki teaching of applicants at various stages and levels of experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide recognition for teachers who demonstrate excellence in teaching and putting the Suzuki philosophy into action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Validate SAA Teacher members\u2019 experience in a way that might be more easily recognized by other regional Suzuki associations. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Certificates of Achievement honor Suzuki teachers\u2019 dedication to artistry in teaching and lifelong learning, going beyond basic unit registration. This program offers teachers a meaningful chance to reflect on their own teaching, receive supportive feedback from experienced Teacher Trainers, and grow in their professional journey. It starts when a specific goal is identified and concludes when the goal is accomplished and an observable change has taken place in the student\u2019s playing.<br><br>A teaching segment usually ends with an assignment, indicating that the teacher has assessed the student\u2019s and parent\/guardian\u2019s understanding and performance of the goal and has ensured that they can practice the assignment effectively at home. <br><br>A teaching segment is similar to Dr. Suzuki\u2019s \u201cone-point lesson.\u201d A child\u2019s weekly lesson may well consist of multiple teaching segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A teaching segment includes the student playing something\u2014such as a measure, a phrase, the first repeat, or a short piece\u2014before you identify what musical or technical aspect of the piece you wish to work on. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>By the conclusion of the segment, it should be evident that a positive change has taken place and can be replicated in practice at home.<\/em> <em>There should be evidence that that the parent understands how to help the student continue to achieve the positive change at home.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Preparing-Your-Videos\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criteria for <strong>Preparing Your Videos<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>student eligibility<\/strong> <strong>and Lesson criteria<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student has studied with you for at least two years or from the beginning of their study. Each level will specify age requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For any performance, the student learned the piece from you (not another teacher).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The student is playing by memory during the lesson, making it possible to work on musical or technical aspects of the piece, rather than learning notes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For piano students, the student is playing an acoustic piano.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We do not recommend performances with orchestra. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Recording Your Lesson and Performances<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Professional recording equipment isn\u2019t necessary; most newer phones provide adequate video and audio. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It may be helpful to use an external microphone depending on your recording device and venue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Camera Placement<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For performances, there is a close view showing the full body with hands and face clearly visible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For teaching segments, you and your student are both visible, with the student&#8217;s hands and face clearly visible. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parent or practice partner is present and involved in the lesson even if they are not visible on camera.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For harp and piano, the video shows the student&#8217;s whole body including  feet at the beginning.&nbsp; After that the camera may zoom in.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For voice, the student\u2019s whole body is visible throughout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Audio quality and subtitles<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The audio, including the speaking, is clear, loud, and easily understood. It is acceptable to use apps to increase the volume of the speaking, if needed, or to add subtitles. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you teach in a language other than English, we respectfully ask that you add English subtitles to your videos to facilitate the processing and evaluation of your application. Please contact us with any questions or if you need additional support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Take Time to Review<\/strong> <strong>Your Videos<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please take the time to carefully review your selections and select what you believe are the strongest examples of your teaching and your students\u2019 performances. <strong>Eliminate any videos that do not meet the student eligibility, lesson criteria, camera placement and audio standards listed above and any criteria listed on the page of the level you wish to apply for.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next,  review your videos in light of the <a href=\"https:\/\/suzukiassociation.org\/teachers\/teacher-trainers\/teacher-trainers\/performance-descriptors\/\">Pedagogy and Performance Descriptors,<\/a> and try to identify specific descriptors that are clearly demonstrated in your recordings and that support your view that these are examples of excellent teaching and performance. You may find it helpful to ask another Suzuki teacher to review your videos with the descriptors in mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you find that several descriptors are not clearly present\u2014or you notice that some important elements are missing\u2014you may wish to consider a different recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please do not add any introductory screens or text to the videos naming yourself as teacher.
