Participants present their own work for feedback, gaining practical insights to improve effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>It is a prerequisite for Unit 3 training.<\/p>\n<p>Each participant will prepare and share video teaching segments at the level of their current pedagogy training. Using the SAA Pedagogy Descriptors, participants will practice the skills of observation and assessment to celebrate teaching successes and explore ways to become more effective. 100% attendance and participation is required to receive course credit with the SAA.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching Strategies can be taken in conjunction or separately from Book 2 training.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching Strategies asks that trainess prepare the following material prior to arriving for training:<\/p>\n<h6><b>Video Recordings:<\/b><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each participant brings 2 recordings of 6-10 minutes each. At least one of the recordings should be of an individual lesson. In some situations, longer lesson clips may be shown.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a participant is not currently teaching individual lessons, they need to contact the trainer to set up an alternative, such as teaching a student from the trainer\u2019s studio, from another teacher\u2019s studio, or teaching an Institute student.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recommended criteria<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student working on Suzuki repertoire, with the teacher actively teaching (i.e. more teaching than student just playing)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student playing from memory<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student and teacher are in camera view, if possible, and parent is present<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Teaching Strategies is incorporated in a Unit 2 course, the repertoire in the recording should be from book 1.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants may bring any recording they choose. Some possible options are those that:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Show challenging situations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Include a topic they are having trouble getting across<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Best represent them as a teacher<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Show a group class<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Show an entire lesson (if time permits)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Faculty:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Daina is a highly qualified Suzuki violin and viola teacher and teacher trainer. She has been involved with Suzuki Talent Education for over thirty years, as a student and teacher, and now as a parent.
