Componer es la oportunidad que tienen los alumnos de plasmar y comunicar ideas originales y emociones personales a través de la música. Es una tarea gozosa y una herramienta pedagógica inestimable para mejorar la musicalidad. Al fusionar los papeles de compositor e intérprete\, un alumno\, de cualquier nivel teórico o interpretativo\, logra una hazaña artistica notable mientras disfruta del proceso creativo. \nDirigido a: profesores de que desean tener mas herramientas pedagógicas para lograr un mayor avance y motivación con sus alumnos de cualquier nivel Suzuki. \nDuración: 10 horas \n• 6 presenciales y \n• 4 horas restantes se impar5rán por Zoom de la siguiente manera: \n• domingo 14 de septiembre; 2 horas y \n• domingo 9 de noviembre; 1.5 horas\, \n• además de una sesión individual de 30 minutos; fecha por definir con cada participante. \nEstas clases que se imparten a partir de septiembre serán con la idea que los profesores participantes logren poner en práctica lo aprendido y lo comenten con la TT en sesiones para ese fin. SUMMARY:The Doctor Is In: The Psychology of Suzuki Teaching
DESCRIPTION:This course will be a deep dive into the psychology of teaching\, taught by clinical psychologist and former Suzuki teacher Dr. Mariam Gregorian. It will explore aspects of teaching that occur frequently but are rarely talked about including: \n-Mental health struggles in young people (including depression\, anxiety) \n-Suicide prevention \n-Neurodivergence (including ADHD\, autism\, different learning styles) \n-Abusive home environments \n-Teacher burnout \n-Difficult conversations \nIt will also lean into common challenges that every Suzuki teacher faces including: \n-Motivation \n-Fostering collaboration over competition \n-Encouraging healthy parental engagement \n-Promoting healthy performance psychology \n-Growing assertiveness \nEach class will include an interactive opportunity for teachers to share about challenges in their home studios. It will also include didactic presentations focused on some of the above topics. \nDr. Mariam Gregorian holds a Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America in Clinical Psychology\, where she spent seven years working in the Suicide Prevention Lab. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in Maryland and Virginia\, where she maintains a private practice. Dr. Gregorian also works as a consultant for CAMS-Care (Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality)\, one of the most promising evidence based approaches to combating suicidal ideation. Prior to this she was a Suzuki Violin teacher who received her BM from the Hartt School and MM from the University of Maryland in violin performance with a Suzuki Pedagogy Specialization. She has registered training in Units 1-10 and Practicum\, and has been in demand as a clinician at workshops and Institutes throughout the country. Dr Gregorian lives in Bethesda\, MD with her husband\, Suzuki Teacher Trainer David Strom\, their daughter Juliet\, cat Kenny\, and dog Chili. \n

SUMMARY:Piano Unit 3
DESCRIPTION:A pre-requisite of this course is Piano Teaching Strategies which is also being offered by the Suzuki School of Newton on Wednesday mornings from November 5 through December 3rd\, 2025. \nAll pieces from Piano Book 3 must be memorized\, and Units 1 and 2 must be completed in addition to the Teaching Strategies course. Participants may be asked to submit a video of the entire book\, or perform all pieces by memory in an interview format. \n100% attendance is required in order to receive course completion. Participants are recommended to have a desktop\, laptop or large tablet for full visibility of the trainer and other participants.  In addition\, being hardwired rather than wi-fi is preferable for a stable internet connection. \nThis course has 8 hours of asynchronous observations and additional practicing of teaching points.  Participants should be prepared to allocate enough additional outside time to take full advantage of this course. \n  \n  \n
