Mrs. Yelena Martinez
Violin, Viola Teacher
I was born in Minsk, Belarus. I graduated from the school of music no.9 in Minsk. In 1990 I got accepted to the Belorussian Academy of Music where I studied for a year until my family immigrated to the United States. I continued my musical education receiving Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin performance, from the University of Minnesota. I have taught traditional violin and viola lessons since 1994 privately and at Schmitt Music, Jan Erickson Studios and Music for Everyone. I have completed a long-term teacher training course, Suzuki books 1-10 with Mark Bjork, as well as “Every Child Can!” class with Mary Kay Waddington and “Suzuki Principles in Action” with Nancy Lokken. I have taught Suzuki method violin (private and group lessons) since 2008. Currently I am assisting in Early Childhood classes in MacPhail Center for Music and give private violin and viola lessons at my studio in Maple Grove.
