Tanya Hambourg comes from a musical family. Her great uncle, pianist Mark Hambourg, was internationally known and can be heard on Youtube. Tanya’s father is a violinist and was her first violin teacher. Tanya is certified to teach Suzuki violin through book 5. Her Suzuki teachers include Teri Einfeldt, Stevie Sandven, and Ronda Cole. At age 6, she participated in a violin Masterclass with Dr. Suzuki. Tanya earned her BM and MM in Viola Performance from Boston University where she received a Director’s Award and a full scholarship towards her Master’s degree. Her teachers include Raphael Hillyer, Steven Ansell, and Michael Zaretsky. Currently, Tanya is a Suzuki Violin and Viola teacher at the Nevada School of the Arts and a free-lance professional violist in the Las Vegas area. She is an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and has taught the Suzuki Method for 19 years. Tanya’s teaching experience includes teaching Suzuki violin and viola for the Whitinsville Christian School strings program and at the Creative Arts for Kids School in Reading, MA. She also had her own private studio in New Orleans, LA. Her students participated in the MTNA Gold Cup Festival, all of whom earned a superior rating and each year one or more of her students performed in the Honors Recital. Tanya has performed as a substitute violist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. She was principal violist of the Symphony by the Sea orchestra and assistant principal violist of the Lexington Symphony under the direction of Jonathan McPhee. Her musical training includes participation in the National Repertory Orchestra, Kneisel Hall chamber music program, and the Tanglewood Young Artists Institute.
