The Suzuki School for Strings was founded in 1985 by Lillian T. Supplee.   Mrs. Supplee was a local violinist who received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Marywood College.  She began the school with 4 violin students and today the school has 4 faculty members, (Jule Supplee, Jean Supplee Brubaker, Peter Brubaker, and Rev. Gerard McGlone over 85 students and provides instruction in violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano.  The school became non-profit in 2006 and has a Board of Directors consisting of 8 members.

The Suzuki philosophy is based on the idea that all children are talented and that children will learn best in a loving and nurturing environment.  It is also based on the mother-tongue method.  Just as we learn to speak before we learn to write, children learn to play before they learn to read music.  The triangle of teacher, parent and child all working together is essential for learning.
