Suzuki Music Winnipeg Inc
Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano Association/Group
The Suzuki Music Winnipeg Inc. (SMW) is an extra-curricular (non-profit) music program offering Suzuki Method instruction in violin, viola, and cello. All students (ages 4 and up) attend weekly private lessons and group lessons throughout the school year. Performance opportunities include two large group concerts (strings), solo days, graduation recitals, and small group performances in the community at venues such as Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s Musicians in the Making, and Manitoba Chamber Orchestra pre-concerts.
The program has existed in Winnipeg, MB since 1969, and it has been affiliated with the Preparatory Studies at the University of Manitoba (U of M) from 1984 –2011. As of June 2011,
the SMW has ceased its affiliation with the U of M and now operates through a community-based model. Beginning September 2016, group lessons for violin, viola and cello will be given on Thursday evenings beginning at 5:30pm, at Adas Yeshurun Herzlia Synagogue Inc. (AYH) at 620 Brock Street at Fleet. As an alternative to “South end groups”, North end Violin Suzuki group lessons are given at Lord Selkirk School (170 Poplar Avenue). A Beginner and/or Central 1A class will be offered at Gordon Bell High School on Saturday mornings, pending adequate enrollment.
