Hello,  I am Susan Monteiro!

I run a College Prep Program called “Get In!” in which I help transform high school music students into top notch college candidates. In my 6th month program, my participants work with experts in performance psychology and body language as well as monthly mock auditions, mock interviews to get ready for their big dive into higher education. I studied music and literature at the University of Cincinnati, Cleveland State University and Northern Arizona University.  I completed my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Music and Literature.

I  have also performed frequently as a symphony orchestra violinist and was at one time in 5 different orchestras.

After deciding to take a break from performing, I started  teaching the violin.  I fell in love with the Suzuki Method and have been using this method  for over 20 years. I now have an online school of the violin and am currently teaching students from the West all the way to the East Coast of the U.S.

I feel so fortunate to have found this calling because music not only teaches us discipline and self confidence, music works with our Neuroplasticity, and Best of All, Music Teaches Humanity! It is a great pleasure to start people at any age on the violin.

I am a certified Suzuki instructor (Violin Books 1-3) and have utilized this amazing method along with traditional classical pedagogy for 25 years.  I own an  online music studio as well as  a musical themed book club, lecture and recital series called Programme Notes.

I am also a Teaching Artist at the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory in their Opus Program where I have the privilege of working with children from Title 1 schools.

I am a homeschooling mom and  love to do most of our learning outside at the beach!
