Tutti Cellist of the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra since 2020, Seulki Lee has previously
held the same position at the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Prior to this position she held
the principal position at the Round Rock Symphony and assistant principal at the Victoria
Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Lee studied at the University of Texas Austin’s Butler School of Music under Bion Tsang,
where she received her DMA. There she was a College of Fine Arts Graduate School Fellow,
and placed second in the Lewisville Lake Symphony International Competition. Prior to this
she pursued her Master’s degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University under
Norman Fisher, where she occupied the Annette and Hugh Gragg Principal Chair and won
the Katharine and Stephen Newman Award. Ms. Lee additionally earned her Bachelors of
Music at the Manhattan School of Music under Julia Lichten, during which she performed in
a special tribute concert in memory of Pablo Casals, at the Spanish Museum in New York.
In addition to her studies and orchestral position Ms. Lee has been an active participant at
international summer festivals including the Britten Pears Aldeburgh Festival in the United
Kingdom, the Thy Chamber Music Festival in Denmark, and the Fontainebleau Music Festival
in France where she was awarded the Prix de Musique de Chambre. In addition, she served
as the Assistant Principal at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan. She is additionally an
alumnus of the Lucerne Festival Academy, the Music Academy of the West, and the
Madeline Island Music Camp where she was a fellow and Artist in Residence.
