Sarah Cote teaches viola, violin, and string pedagogy at Belmont University. In addition to her work with college students, she teaches Suzuki lessons through the Belmont Academy. She is also on the faculty at Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Ms. Cote studied string pedagogy with Carol Dallinger at University of Evansville and with Mimi Zweig at Indiana University. Ms. Cote has had Suzuki training with Mark Mutter, Anne Montzka-Smelser, Ronda Cole, Nancy Jackson, Timothy Durbin, Alice Joy Lewis, Brian Lewis, and Charles Krigbaum. Her degrees are in violin performance from Indiana University and in viola performance, also from Indiana.
Ms. Cote has maintained an active private studio since 1986.
Sarah Cote was a member of the San Antonio Symphony for 16 years. During that time, she taught inner city middle school students as part of the Symphony’s Music Advancement Program. She also served on the steering committee for the program.
In addition, Ms. Cote taught string pedagogy to teachers in Costa Rica Sinem program. In May and June 2019, Ms Cote was a guest artist for the American Viola Society Facebook page, discussing issues in viola pedagogy, alternative styles, and technique.
Sarah Cote performs with the Belmont Camerata, Music City Baroque and The Eastern Music Festival.
