Later he started studying the cello with great teachers in Brazil, among them: Fabio Presgrave (Juilliard School) Andre Micheletti (Indiana University) and Dennis Parker (Louisiana State University), and has played in several masterclasses with great cellists as Marek Jerie (Guarneri Trio Prague).

Mr. Rodrigo Pessoa holds a Bachelors in Music Education from the Federal University of Sao Carlos (Sao Paulo—Brazil). He studied cello performance at UNM under Dr. David Schepps, where he awarded the Abe Franck Graduate Assistantship, spending time as the cellist of the Graduate String Quartet and hold the position of Principal Cello in the UNM Symphony Orchestra. Now he is a Teaching Assistantship at the Texas Tech University as a DMA student under Professor Jeffrey Lastrapes.

While in Brazil, Mr. Rodrigo accumulated a huge experience as a cello teacher, by spending 18 years teaching in individual and group lessons (music schools and own studio) and working with social projects as well. In Albuquerque, he taught cello group lessons at Montezuma Elementary School (2016) and worked as an intern teacher at the UNM Lab School. Also, he was invited to work as a cello instructor at the Santa Fe Youth Symphony program and started the Strings Program at the Estancia Valley Classical Academy.

Mr. Rodrigo uses traditional methods in relation to the orchestra playing and includes the student’s repertoire as primordial in the learning process.
