Robert is a certified Suzuki Method guitar instructor who has been teaching privately for over 20 years. His studio features guitarists of all ages and skill levels. Whether they are young beginners, college-bound students preparing for auditions or adults seeking to expand their relationship with music, Robert’s students come away with a developed repertoire and an enhanced ability to communicate musically. As a passionate educator, he loves sharing the wonder and enrichment that music can bring to his students lives while instilling in them solid technical command, as well as sight-reading, music theory, and ear training skills applicable to a myriad styles.

Robert is also an active performer and teacher in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. With a focus in contemporary chamber music, Robert’s work has been featured at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, NPR, WNYC, and SFMOMA. Robert, along with his group Mobius Trio, is the dedicatee of dozens of new works for the guitar by composers from around the world including Samuel Carl Adams and Tilman Hoppstock, and engaging in performing collaborations with the Kronos Quartet and Sergio Assad. He also works as a solo performer, composer, and producer creating immersive sonic cocoons through the use of guitars, synthesizers, electronics, and field recordings. His work seeks to build lusciously abstract environments that invite listeners to engage as actively or passively as their own experience unfolds. His first installation work The Spectrum of Dreams’ Resting Light was an acclaimed evening-length meditation opera, and during the lockdown Robert teamed up with long-time dance collaborator Kit McDaniel to present a recurring virtual movement and music event Allow To Realign for participants to enjoy guided movement and ambient music. Robert’s second full-length album do you believe in ghosts? premieres in Spring of 2023 as a follow up to his debut album A Musical Offering In Spite Of My Flaws (2020).

Mr. Nance holds a Bachelor’s Degree from New York University, and a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
