First a Suzuki student, then a Suzuki parent, and now a Suzuki teacher, Reed Collins brings a lifetime of study and a deeply supportive perspective to his violin instruction. He completed his collegiate work in music theory, musicology, and performance practice at Harvard, where he was a student of Robert Levin, Christoph Wolff, and John Stewart. His violin studies began at age 5 with long-time Suzuki instructors Judith Souders and Joan Skoczen in Philadelphia, and continued with Lynn Chang at M.I.T. He completed his pedagogical training with Allen Lieb at the School for Strings.

Growing up, Reed performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Philadelphia’s Academy of Music, and in Moscow’s Red’s Square as a member of Valery Gergiev’s “Youth Orchestra of the World.” After building his first career as a corporate lawyer and copyright litigator, he rediscovered his first love: Reed now performs frequently as a chamber musician and as co-concertmaster of Camerata Notturna, the Manhattan-based chamber orchestra, collaborating with renowned concert artists including Benjamin Beilman, Johnny Gandelsman, Colin Carr, Paul Watkins, and David Chan. He lives on the Upper West Side with his wife Brooke Lieberman Collins, a classical singer and Suzuki voice teacher, and their children Isadora (cello) and Asher (violin and viola).
