Pam Reit has been a Suzuki teacher since 1986. She received her Bachelor of Music from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and her Masters of Music from Rice University in Houston. She was lucky to receive teacher training from Ronda Cole, Paul Landefeld, Mihoko Hirata, Stevie Sandven, Lorraine Fink, Doris Preucil and Judy Offman. She studied with Daniel Heifetz, Edward Shmider and Ray Fliegel. Her chamber groups were coached by Ruben Gonzales and the American String Quartet. She attended many workshops with Kato Havas and also studied the Alexander Technique. She has attended 14 Suzuki National Conferences (since 1990)! Pam moved home to the Burlington, Vermont, area in 1992 and began Vermont Suzuki Violins, Inc, which provides community Suzuki group classes and an advanced chamber music program. She has taught at Institutes and workshops all over the country and she has directed and co-directed many workshops in Houston, Vermont and in the Upper Valley of New Hanpshire. Pam co-founded the Houston Area Suzuki Strings Association in 1991. She is now the Director of the Green Mountain Suzuki Institute in Rochester, Vermont. Pam is a 2012 winner of the SAA Creating Community Award. Pam and her husband, Ira Morris, both have private violin studios at home in Hinesburg, Vermont. They have raised two daughters: Abby, a musical theatre artist and Layla, a cellist.
