As a Suzuki student growing up I learned to love music at a young age. I then continued studying violin as a Music and Mandarin Chinese double major at Trinity University in San Antonio Texas. Then moved to Honolulu Hawai’i for the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa’s masters of Asian Studies program, researching the cultural and musical context of the first Chinese violin concerto, Butterfly Lovers or 梁山伯与祝英台. After completing this, I continued some graduate study in music of China at UHM where I also learned to play the traditional Chinese instrument Erhu. I also started a violin program for 2nd through 6th grade at Trinity Christian School’s in Kailua. Now my husband and I are moving abroad to pursue his linguistics career. I am thrilled for the chance to practice Suzuki music myself again in order to teach better. I hope to continue working through Suzuki teacher registrations because I am excited to get to be a part of student’s live as my teachers were in my life.
