Morgan Lee Gerstmar is a Santa Monica based violist/violinist, composer, and educator from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in the Performer/Composer program from the California Institute of the Arts; a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience, Musical Studies and East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Southern California, and precollege training from the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. Her teachers have included Lorenz Gamma, John Ziarko, and Donald McInnes. She studied Suzuki Books 1-4 with Ed Sprunger, Book 5 with Ann Montzka Smelser, and Suzuki Early Childhood Education with Danette Warren Schuh.

Morgan’s diverse careers in neuroscience and music have provided her with a unique method of teaching young violin and viola students. She has extensive experience with organizations across Los Angeles County such as Young Musician’s Foundation, Elemental Music, Children’s Music Workshop, and the Westside Music Conservatory. She is a board member of Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) for the Santa Monica Bay branch and a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). Her students regularly receive the highest marks on RCM and have won National Gold Medals and participated in the Ceremony of Excellence at USC. They have also placed in local competitions and won 1st place at the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest multiple years in a row.
