Morgan Lee Gerstmar is a Santa Monica based violist/violinist, composer, and educator from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in the Performer/Composer program from the California Institute of the Arts; a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience, Musical Studies and East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Southern California and precollege training from the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. Morgan’s diverse career in Neuroscience and Music has provided her with unique tools for teaching her violin and viola students. Morgan received Book 1 and 2 training with esteemed pedagogue Ed Sprunger at the Los Angeles Suzuki Institute.
Education is the focal point of her career as an artist. Her private students have won concertmaster and principal chairs in school orchestras, seats in SCBOA and CODA middle and high school regional orchestra competitions, and receive high marks in the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. Playing alternative styles of music is important in her studio, in 2016 and 2015 her students placed 1st and 2nd in Beginning Fiddle at the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest. In addition to her private studio, Morgan teaches violin, viola, and general music for several organizations, such as Santa Monica’s premier orchestra program Elemental Music, Young Musician’s Foundation, and Children’s Music Workshop.
