She studied under Dr. Anna Balakerskaia and was awarded the 2010 Student Achievement Recognition Award by MTNA for academic excellence and leadership abilities. During her time at Mason, Melody focused on Russian 20th Century Music and performed her thesis recital on Shostakovich’s student repertoire. Mrs. Kucks received her Bachelor’s of Music from Covenant College and studied under Dr. Jeanelle Brown. In addition to her classical studies, she pursued jazz piano (solo and ensemble), accompanying, and chamber music.
Melody began her Suzuki training in 2009 with Mary Craig Powell. Her training with Ms. Powell ignited Melody’s passion for laying a strong foundation for beginners in technique and musicality. Melody’s teaching style is interactive and student-centered. She believes that you can pursue musical excellence AND have fun at the same time! She is convinced that EVERY child can master the piano and hopes to kindle a life-long love of music in all her students.
