Matthew K. Stalzer

Flute Teacher

Matthew Stalzer is currently a first-year Master’s student at Northwestern University studying under the tutelage of Professor John Thorne.

A native of McLean, Virginia, Matthew began Suzuki flute lessons at the age of five with Rebecca Carey at the Levine School in Washington, D.C. As a performer, he has played for dignitaries and honored guests at prestigious venues such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the United States Department of State, and the embassies of Italy and Mexico. Matthew received his Bachelor of Music degree from Shenandoah Conservatory, where he studied with Jonathan Snowden, former principal flute of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He enjoys traditional work in the orchestral and chamber music settings, as well as performing new music by living composers. After he completes his studies, Matthew hopes to pursue a career as an orchestral musician and teacher.

As a private teacher, Matthew enjoys working with students of all ages. He has benefited from having passionate and knowledgable teachers throughout his career and hopes to give back and teach the next generation of young flautists.
