A classically trained violinist and experienced teacher, Matthew Rhodes graduated Cum Laude from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. Awarded a generous scholarship as a student of Mark Rush, Matt has performed public solo recitals featuring the works of Beethoven, Barber, Sarasate, and more.

An avid orchestral violinist, Matt has performed with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra, the Lamont Opera Theatre Orchestra, the Littleton Symphony, and the Colorado Youth Symphony. He served as concertmaster of small orchestras while freelancing in Denver. In addition to earning a full fellowship to the Sierra Academy of Music in Mammoth Lakes, CA, he has also performed in numerous honor orchestras.

In 2017, Matt’s string quartet performed the Grieg String Quartet in its entirety at the Lamont Chamber Honors Concert. The quartet was also featured in a masterclass with the Harlem String Quartet and an on–stage performance in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Matt has coached chamber music with the Felici Piano Trio, Amadi Azikiwe, Kitty Knight, Susan Cahill, and Mark Rush.

Matt is a passionate and experienced teacher whose private studio is growing with excellent young musicians. His students not only lead their respective school ensembles, but are also found sitting principle stand in college orchestras, youth orchestras, honor orchestras, and summer festivals. Matt instills his students with a strong technical foundation, musicality, and most importantly, a rich love for music. Matt studied Suzuki Pedagogy with Lamont’s Kathleen Spring and is registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas in books 1–3. Matt is also a licensed educator in the state of Colorado.
