Mrs. Mary Wilkening
Mary Wilkening graduated with a music major from the University of Illinois, and later studied cello with Gabor Rejto at USC. She received a MA in Education from Catholic University in Washington DC through the Urban Teacher Corps program. She studied the Suzuki Method of teaching cello with Phyllis Glass in LA, with Yvonne Tait in Tucson, and Barbara Wampner and Tanya Carey at Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She has been president of the Arizona Suzuki Association and is currently president of the West Valley Youth Orchestra. She was Principal Cellist of the Symphony of the West Valley for 20 years and still plays in that orchestra. She taught kindergarten and first grade in Avondale School district for 12 years, and currently teaches cello in her home studio in Litchfield Park, AZ. She also is a center director for Music Together West, a program of teaching music competence to preschool children.
