Cellist Maria Baylock has recently relocated to Denton, Texas!
She has been teaching as long as she can remember, starting around age 5 with her younger sister as her first pupil. After completing a B.M. from Catholic University and two M.M. (one in performance and the other in music history) from Southern Methodist University, in 1996 she moved to Northern Virginia and began building a home studio, a freelance career, and a family. When her daughter began Suzuki violin lessons at age 4, Maria first experienced the teaching methods of Shinichi Suzuki and her own teaching was so enriched that she sought out sessions and classes at Suzuki workshops and institutes. This led to Suzuki teacher training with Grace Field and Beth Cantrell in Virginia, and Tanya Carey in Chicago.

Maria enjoys a freelance career playing cello in a variety of settings and styles, including classical symphony and chamber music, as well as pop and rock. Maria is also an accomplished pianist and enjoys accompanying her students. She parents three children with her husband, jazz musician Alan Baylock. When not engaged in musical activities, Maria enjoys time with her family, cooking and enjoying the great outdoors.
