I am an active teacher and performer currently living in Longmont, Colorado. I studied for several years with Barbara Thiem, professor of cello at Colorado State University before moving to Waco, Texas. I attended Baylor University and studied with Gary Hardie while earning my degree in music education. I have also worked with renowned cellists such as Lynn Harrell, Jolyon Pegis, and Judith Glyde. In addition to cello, I have also been teaching violin and viola for several years.

In lessons I use a mixture of traditional teaching techniques while incorporating many aspects of the Suzuki method. I have completed the training courses for Suzuki Books 1-3, studying with David Evenchick, AliceAnn O’Neill, and Andrea Yun. I cover the foundations of music theory, sight reading, musicianship, practice strategies, and ensemble playing.

My goal is to develop ability and foster character growth through teaching. I teach a range of young children to adult students and am always looking for the best way to reach each student individually. I believe that the best way to be a great teacher is to be a great student and I love learning every day from my students.

When I am not teaching, you can find me playing disc golf, hiking, chasing my cats around the yard or trying a new brewery with my husband. I am also a family and pet photographer – you can find my work at www.lydiayoungphoto.com
