Lillian Mattson is from Pleasant Grove, Utah and has been playing the cello for over nineteen years. Recently graduating from Brigham Young University in Cello Performance, Lillian has learned countless skills and valuable lessons while having the opportunity to participate in six years of high school orchestras, one year of All-State Orchestra, many years on scholarship for Timpanogos Chamber Orchestra directed by Lois Stout, four years of playing in Brigham Young University’s Philharmonic Orchestra and two years of participating in their Chamber music group. She has studied cello with ElizaBeth Willey Marsh, Pattie Pinkston and Michelle Kesler.

Lillian loves to teach and share her passion for music to anyone and everyone. She is encouraging and patient with a happy and warm personality, helping others feel comfortable and welcome. She has been teaching for over five years and loves it more as time passes.

Lillian performed under the direction of Kory Katseanes while playing in the Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras and was a part of the Chamber Orchestra tour to China in 2019. She also participated in the Baroque ensemble, directed by Alexander Woods, a faculty member at BYU. She has played in many different quartets, trios and ensembles during her time at Brigham Young University, including the BYU Honors String Quartet, and continues to look for more opportunities to perform.

Lillian has participated in masterclasses with Rhonda Rider, Katarina Pliego, Gal Faganel and John Eckstein. Each of which were guest artists at BYU. She has also played with Alex Boye, David Archuleta, Jenny Oaks Baker, Amy Grant, Michael Smith and Jordan Smith for various performances.
