Leslie Whelan recently relocated to Texas after spending several years teaching and performing in central Virginia. While in Virginia, she was an active performer with the Fairfax Symphony, Ash Lawn Opera, Roanoke Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Opera on the James, and Afton String Quartet. Leslie managed a cello studio in Charlottesville, VA, taught for the Boyd Tinsley Fund in the Charlottesville City Schools, and was the cello instructor at the Charlottesville Waldorf School. Most recently, Leslie was an adjunct instructor at Longwood University in Farmville, VA, teaching Music Appreciation and String Techniques.
Leslie received a BM from Ithaca College and MM from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has completed Suzuki Teacher Training courses with Tanya Carey, Beth Cantrell, Pamela Devenport, Carey Beth Hockett, and Carol Tarr. Her past instructors include Evelyn Elsing, Uri Vardi, Elizabeth Simkin, Heidi Hoffman, Nicola Heinrich, and Suzanne Smith.
