Laurie (Lenehan) Driskill received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where she was the winner of the String Chamber Music Award. She has since performed with symphonies throughout Southern California including the Pacific Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay and the Santa Barbara Symphony. She has also served as Concertmaster of both the Torrance and Antelope Valley Symphonies. Mrs. Driskill has been a part of numerous recording projects, was a regular chamber musician at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, and toured with John Tesh and Persian pop artist, Googoosh. She was also featured with a quartet on the “Sundays at Seven” syndicated radio program.

A seasoned music instructor who has attended Suzuki training in Books 1-3, she has also had the opportunity to attend four additional Suzuki Institutes as the parent of a Suzuki student. She has been the director of the Chamber Music Intensive at Coast Conservatory and music teacher at Ambassador High School. As a member of the Music Teacher’s Association of California, South Bay Branch her students have the opportunity to participate in any MTA programs including the annual Certificate of Merit, which includes scales, etudes, performance pieces, sight-reading and music theory. Beginning students, however, are taught by the Suzuki method, and are encouraged to learn at first by ear, with the loving help of a parent. Group classes are also part of the learning process, supplemental to the weekly private lessons, taught in her Redondo Beach home which borders Torrance and Palos Verdes Estates.

Mrs. Driskill is an enthusiastic teacher who believes in the importance of creating a strong foundation for future success. The individuality of each child is respected, yet all are challenged to do more than they think they can do! Parent education is also part of the program in order to aid in the at-home practicing and understand the importance of the parent’s role at various stages of a child’s learning. Please call or email for further information, help obtaining a good instrument, or to arrange a meeting and/or view a lesson.
