Violin, Viola, Suzuki in the Schools Teacher
Laura Raitt is in her eighth year as the director of the Charter Oak Unified School District Strings Program. Laura has also taught private violin and viola in the San Diego and San Gabriel Valley areas for the past 15 years. Laura has studied music education, viola performance, and child development at both Azusa Pacific University and Citrus College and is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University where she received her Bachelors Degree in Music Education. While at APU, Laura conducted the Azusa Conservatory Strings Ensemble. Laura is a registered Suzuki teacher and has studied Suzuki with Carrie Ruening-Hummel, Terry Durbin, and Laurie Scott, with whom she studied teaching the Suzuki in the Schools method. In the spring of 2006 Laura won second place in the Grossmont Concert Association Competition. She has also had the privilege of spending several summers in Crested Butte, Colorado at the Viola Workout (Founded by Robert Becker, whom she has also studied with at Azusa Pacific University). Laura has served as a member of the Lake Avenue Chamber Orchestra, Azusa Pacific University Symphony Orchestra and as the principal violist in the Azusa Pacific University Choir and Orchestra, who have toured to the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and Italy.
