Mrs. Larissa Thomas
Larissa Thomas began playing the cello at age ten after hearing a recording of the instrument and loving its sound. A born and raised Alaskan, she received her Bachelor Degree in Music Performance from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, studying under Daniel Oliver, Dr. Minna Chung, and Dr. Karl Knapp. While living in Fairbanks, she taught cello from her private studio for five years, as well as leading beginning and advanced Suzuki group lessons with the Fairbanks Suzuki School of Talent Education.
Ms. Thomas is registered through the Suzuki Association of the Americas in cello books one through four. She has done Suzuki training with Pamela Devenport, Sally Gross, and Carol Tarr and has taken traditional masterclasses with Andres Diaz and Zuill Bailey.
Since moving to Houston in the fall of 2011, Ms. Thomas has established a teaching studio of private students from around the Houston area, and is the class and private cello instructor at Saint Thomas’ Episcopal School in the Meyerland area.
Ms. Thomas teaches based on each student’s needs and places a high emphasis on tone production and musicality. She loves teaching the cello to all ages and seeing the joy that playing music brings to others!
