A recipient of the Marina Grin Award and Golden Classical Music Award, Kyu Butler has received awards from many competitions including Chosun Daily News Co. Competition, Korea Times Competition, The Korean National Students Competition, Samick Piano Competition, Choonchoo Piano Competition, Monthly Music Magazine Competition, Yookyoung Students Competition, University of Illinois Symphony Concerto Competition, Golden Classical Music Awards Competition, and among others. Butler has trained with such masters as Leon Fleisher, Aldo Ciccolini, Menahem Pressler, Yefim Bronfman, Vladimir Feltsman, Boris Slutsky and many others in Czech Republic, China, Italy, Korea and US.

​Butler received her Bachelor of Music from The Korean National University of Arts’ School of Music studied with Mr. Choong-Mo Kang, a former faculty member of the Juilliard School in New York City, and Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Butler received her Professional Studies Diploma in Early Historical Keyboards emphasis on Fortepiano.

Currently, she is pursuing both Doctorate in Piano Performance and Literature and Master of Music in Vocal Coaching and Accompanying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with full scholarship, while she is working as Adjunct Faculty at the Community Music School of Webster University. Butler has completed the Piano Pedagogy Internship, and also worked as an opera coach, Teaching Assistant as a piano instructor, and studio accompanist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has recently trained with Caroline Fraser, Sharon Miller, Tanya Carey, Joan Crazywicki who are experts in the Suzuki Method for teaching young children.

​Butler is actively performing in US and abroad. During 2017-2018 season, she has performance engagements in prestigious venues including the Carnegie Hall (New York City) in November, concerto performance with the Korea Soloists Orchestra in South Korea, faculty recitals and chamber recitals at CMS Webster University, and her doctoral recitals in Champaign, IL.

​Butler is a Co-Vice President of the Missouri Music Teachers Association, and a member of Music Teachers National Association, St. Louis Area Music Teachers Association and the College Music Society. Also she is a member of the Piano Teachers Round Table in St. Louis, and Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Butler teaches for all ages and levels.
