Cello, Violin, Viola Teacher, Parent
Kimberly Fanning (formerly Kimberly Harris) has been teaching private lessons since she was 16. Since beginning teacher training in 2005, she has registered numerous courses with the SAA on cello and violin.
Kim comes from a musical family (Mom plays flute and piccolo and brother plays bassoon and clarinet) and started violin lessons at 7, cello lessons at 11, and viola and piano lessons at 17. As a student she played with the Kansas City Youth Symphony for 6 years (5 on cello and 1 on viola). Kim has a bachelors degree in cello from Truman State University (Kirksville, MO) where she was 1st chair cello all 4 years and a masters degree in Music History from UofL (where she was 1st chair viola).
After graduation Kim remained in Louisville and started her own private music studio out of her home, in addition to teaching at a few studios in the area. In 2008, a mere 2 months after her wedding, Kim had the opportunity to buy Notable Beginnings Music School, where she moved her home studio and now has 13 additional teachers on all instruments.
Kim currently teaches at Notable Beginnings in Louisville and at the Boaz Performance Academy across the river in Floyds Knobs, IN. In addition to lessons, Kim also teaches music appreciation classes at Jefferson Community and Technical College in downtown Louisville.
Kim and her husband James have a preschooler named Lucas who has recently started viola and toddler twins Lily and Lincoln.
