**After high school, Kelly studied guitar at the Southwest Guitar Conservatory and went on to earn his bachelors of music degree at the University of North Texas. He began his performing career on the high seas, playing the cruise ship circuit, both as a band leader and show band performer. In 1995 he met vocalist Julie Davis and founded the jazz group Davis and Dow. Julie and Kelly produced and developed three touring shows, received touring grants from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and also produced several award winning recordings. Together they toured colleges, performing art centers and festivals, taking them all across the U.S. plus London and Tokyo. Kelly’s career highlights with Davis and Dow include performing original music for the television show Food Nation With Bobby Flay, performing for Disney, opening for Cindi Lauper at Sun Fest, opening for Chic Corea at The Wellington Jazz Festival and sharing the stage with jazz luminaries such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bucky Pizzarelli, Monty Alexander and others. Davis and Dow continue to actively perform in the south Florida community and beyond. Kelly is also an expert at playing the extended range 7 string guitar, 5-string banjo and ukulele.

In addition to performing, Kelly currently teaches guitar at North Broward Preparatory School (NBPS) where he has middle school and high school guitar classes. NBPS is a Nord Anglia school, which is a family of 69 international schools based in 29 countries around the world. Nord Anglia has a special collaboration with The Juilliard School. This enables Kelly to teach classroom activities and curriculum developed by Juilliard, and has taken many professional development courses through The Juilliard School including one on one teacher coaching by a Juilliard classroom specialist.

Kelly was introduced to the Suzuki approach by attending an ECC workshop in April of 2019. He was intrigued with the Suzuki philosophy and approach to pedagogy. He also noticed many of the Suzuki core values and philosophy align with NBPS standards and goals. He then pursued his Suzuki teacher training and became certified for Unit I in the summer of 2020. He is planning to get certified for unit 2 and 3 summer of 2021.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kelly has delayed the implementation of a Suzuki program at NBPS. However he plans to begin a Suzuki guitar program at NBPS in the fall of 2021. He will start with NBPS students only but as The NBPS Arts Academy expands, Kelly hopes to offer spaces in the program to the wider community. Kelly is also active in the greater south florida music community, as a member of the Miami Jazz Co-op, and has worked with Guitars Over Guns and The Nat King Cole Generation Hope Foundation.
