Kate LaRiviere began taking Suzuki violin lessons as a three year-old with Louise Wear, and continued her lessons as a teenager with Marylou Speaker Churchill at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston, MA. Kate studied violin performance at Rice University, and Brigham Young University where she received her Bachelors of Music in violin performance. She later studied violin performance and Suzuki pedagogy with Teri Einfeldt and Linda Fiore at the Hartt School in Hartford, CT where she received her Masters of Music in violin performance and was a member of the 20-20 intensive chamber music program.

Kate has performed as soloist with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra, and has served as concertmaster of the Brigham Young University Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras as well as the Hartt School of Music’s Symphony Orchestra. Kate spent many years as a freelancing violinist and has performed with Sacramento area orchestras such as the Sacramento Philharmonic and the Modesto Symphony. Kate currently resides in Salt Lake City, UT with her two children ages 15 and 12.

After nearly 20 years teaching and performing, Kate is now pursuing a second career in medicine and is a current medical student at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Though her time for teaching and performing is limited, Kate maintains a small private studio at her home in Salt Lake City. Kate teaches all ages, and specializes in practice technique coaching for young violinists preparing for college and competition auditions.
