Kari Barton Lapins started violin at 8 in the Suzuki Method in Flagstaff, Arizona. She holds a BA in Performing Arts Management (Columbia College Chicago) and a MM in Violin Performance/Suzuki Pedagogy (Northern Arizona University). She studied violin with Ruth Giauque, Louise Scott, Karin Hallberg, Sue Baer, and Phyllis Sanders. She studied Suzuki Pedagogy with Louise Scott, Karin Hallberg, Sue Baer, and Julia Hardie. She is a Music Mind Games Teacher Trainer for Unit 1.
She teaches violin/viola, group, fiddle, and Music Mind Games for NAU Academy, Suzuki in the schools at Marshall Elementary, performs with Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, Slugs from Space Quartet, and hosts a weekly Irish session.
In addition to teaching, Mrs. Lapins is very active in Irish fiddling (performance, studying, teaching, and promoting). Her non-profit organization, Living Traditions Presentations, presents Celtic music concerts and workshops. She also directs Grand Canyon Celtic Arts Academy, which began in 2009. She received the Viola Award for Music in 2012 (Flagstaff’s version of an arts Academy Award).
