Kari Lapins started violin at 8 in the Suzuki Method in Flagstaff, Arizona. She holds a BA in Performing Arts Management (Columbia College Chicago) and a MM in Violin Performance/Suzuki Pedagogy (Northern Arizona University). She studied violin with Ruth Giauque, Louise Scott, Karin Hallberg, Sue Baer, Geoffrey Herd, and Phyllis Sanders. She studied Suzuki Pedagogy with Louise Scott, Sue Baer, Teri Einfeldt, and Julia Hardie. She has been strongly influenced by mentor and colleague, Karin Hallberg. She is a Music Mind Games Teacher Trainer for Unit 1 and 2 and has trained extensively with Michiko Yurko. She has also taken a workshop in Creative Ability Development with Alice Kanack. Kari has lived in Knoxville since 2016 with her husband, children, and dogs. She performs with Oak Ridge Symphony, Bryan Symphony, Symphony of the Mountains, and the Irish session.
Previously, Kari taught violin/viola, group, fiddle, and Music Mind Games for NAU Academy, Suzuki in the schools at Marshall Elementary, performed with Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, Slugs from Space Quartet, and hosted a weekly Irish session. She received the Viola Award for Music in 2012 (Flagstaff’s Arts Academy Award).
