Karen Kelley is a graduate of the University of New Mexico where she received a bachelor’s degree in violin performance and string pedagogy. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, she has repeatedly placed in the Silver State Competition, Bolognini Competition, and received honorable mention at the Music Teacher’s National Association statewide competition. Karen has also participated in the Hot Springs Music Festival, UNM Summer Music Institute, and soloed with the Henderson Symphony Orchestra. While at UNM, she played with the undergraduate string quartet and participated in masterclasses with the Calidore String Quartet, Brentano String Quartet, and The Ezra Duo. Karen received her Suzuki Books 1-10 teacher training from Susan Kempter and has taught at the UNM String Lab School and the Nevada School of the Arts String Camp. Her private instructors include Dr. Carmelo de los Santos, Mary Straub, Jennifer Hellewell, and Caroll Berns.

She formerly taught at the Nevada School of the Arts and was a paraprofessional with the Cashman Middle School Orchestra Program.

She now offers private lessons in the northeast Houston area.
