Kara Kirsten is board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) and Suzuki violin instructor residing in Cherry Hill, NJ. She holds a B.A. in music (performance) from North Central College in Naperville, IL, where her primary instrument was classical voice, in which she specialized in the soubrette and coloratura repertoire of the Baroque and Classical periods. In addition, she completed an M.A. in music therapy from Immaculata University in Immaculata, PA. In addition to violin and voice, Kara is also proficient in piano, guitar and ukulele.

A believer in the accessibility of musical learning to all ages and levels of development, Kara has experience working in a broad range of music therapy settings, including pediatric, psychiatric, geriatric, and medical. She sees the potential for the marriage of music therapy-based interventions and the Suzuki approach, as well as its utility with all ages and stages of life, and this is something she explored in her final project for her master’s degree in music therapy, in the development of a Suzuki-based program for adults with developmental trauma and PTSD. Formerly a music therapist at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in Hammonton, NJ, Kara is currently a doctoral student in clinical psychology (PsyD) at Immaculata University. She lives in Cherry Hill, NJ with her husband and four children.
