Mrs. Threatte has been playing music since age nine. She began her music education in New York at the Green Meadow Waldorf School. Julie moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she was introduced to the Suzuki method. She then moved to Denver, Colorado where she studied with Dr. Barbara Hamilton. Julie played in the Colorado Youth Symphony, the Denver Young Artist Orchestra and the Colorado Young Chamber Players. In high school, Julie served as principal violist of the Colorado All-State Orchestra and the Denver Young Artist Orchestra.

Julie attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, where she studied with Mr. David Holland. While attending Interlochen, she was a member of the Traverse City Symphony Orchestra. Julie attended the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Mr. John Graham. She completed her bachelor of music performance degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder where she received full scholarship and graduated with honors. While at CU Boulder, Julie studied with Ms. Erica Eckert.

Julie holds a masters degree in music performance from the University of Texas at Austin where she was on the University of Texas String Project faculty.

Julie has attended numerous summer music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival and Credo Chamber Music Festival at Oberlin.

Julie and her husband David live in Longmont, Colorado. In addition to playing and teaching, they own and run Barton Cane, a company that processes and sells bassoon cane.
