I attended Oberlin Conservatory for double degree in performance and a BA in Neuroscience. I graduated with a Masters in Environmental Science before turning my efforts fully to teaching. I studied my instrument with internationally acclaimed teachers including Vamos, Slowik, Naegele, Irvine, and Belgique, with teacher training from Shackford, Atcherson and Kaminsky. I have done a book 1-10 overview course with the esteemed Clarisse Atcherson.

I teach in inner SW (John’s Landing) Portland, OR and enjoy helping children and parents make music an integral part of their life. As a son of two teachers (one of whom also did counseling and then pastoring), teaching is a way of life for me learned young, and applied throughout my life. I bring a passionate and dynamic teaching style that connects to children where they are. Children earn responsibility with age appropriate tasks.

I’m also a relatively new Suzuki parent! This has only heightened my awareness of how challenging the parent role is, and how much fun it can be! My role as teacher is to make sure you understand what to do with your child to have an enjoyable violin practice.

My program consists of every other week group classes on Saturday mornings, in addition to weekly individual lessons. My mixed age studio (currently 4-60+!) is a warm atmosphere for learning at every age. I also will open up some SATURDAY TEACHING SPOTS! (Much less traffic on Saturdays)

In my years of professional teaching, I have already had a student win a solo and sit concertmaster in a local youth symphony (MYS), and happily graduated a few families but the positive impact on the overall quality of life to each family is of greater import to me. I’m a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and have a regular chamber music group. Please visit my website for more information.

I note that in addition to the Suzuki trainings listed, I also have other highly relevant study that informs my teaching. I attended Oberlin Conservatory for double degree in performance and a BA in Neuroscience, as well as my masters in Environmental Science. We take an approach to violin like a scientist doing research. I also incorporate into my teaching my study of the creative violin training (Fun Improvisation for Children & more, listed on the back of your Suzuki volume 1). Kids love it because it is super fun and engaging. Like many others, I also use Music Mind Games too.

I am also a musiclink teacher, who offers discounted lessons to students on free or reduced lunch programs. I do not want price to be a factor in not studying with me.
