Cello Teacher, Parent
Jenny Downs has played cello for 32 years. She has been teaching for 13 years. She was trained traditionally and has been training in and teaching the Suzuki Method for 3 years being first trained by Carey Cheney and Pamela Davenport. She grew up primarily in Mesa, Arizona, playing for years in the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. She received a full tuition Music scholarship to Ricks College (Now BYU-ID) where she received her AA in Music. She then received her BA in Music from BYU with an emphasis in early music education.
She has 5 children. She is a member of a small local symphony- Kensington Symphony, which works in conjunction with the Kensington Theatre in South Jordan. They do concerts and musicals and other local projects and performances. She also plays with the Utah Philharmonic Symphony. Previously she was in the Mid Columbia Symphony in Richland, WA. Since moving to Riverton 4 years ago she has began primarily teaching in her students’ homes. She teaches primarily in the Southeast Salt Lake valley (Riverton, Herriman, South Jordan areas).
