Jennifer Lang began studying violin at age 7 in the Twin Cities. As a young musician she participated in many competitions and recitals and, during her senior year in high school, won the MacPhail and Minnesota Sinfonia Young Artist Soloist competitions.

Jennifer earned her undergraduate degrees in Violin Performance and French at Oberlin College, where she studied with Marilyn McDonald, attended summer residencies in Round Top and Banff, lived abroad in Marseilles, and served as Principal and Assistant Principal 2nd Violin for the Oberlin Orchestra’s performances of l’Elisir d’Amoreand its Carnegie Hall debut in 2007.

From 2008-2012 following her studies, Jennifer lived in Paris, France. During that time she took lessons with Jeanne-Marie Conquer, a member of Pierre Boulez’s Ensemble Intercontemporain. She also attended the Ecole Supérieure d’Interprètes et de Traducteurs, a professional translation school, and taught English and Violin—both freelance and as part of programming through Ecole Koenig with the International School of Paris.

In the summers of 2010 and 2011, Jennifer performed in Switzerland as a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, under the direction of Pierre Boulez. In 2011 she helped establish Sinfonietta Paris, a French non-profit organization that features premier upcoming soloists and chamber music artists in salon performance series.

Jennifer joined the faculty of MacPhail’s partnership program in April of 2015, working as Interim Director of the orchestra program at the Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource Schools (FAIR) in Minneapolis and Crystal. In October of 2016, she began work with the WISHES afterschool program in Plymouth. She was also on the Suzuki faculty at the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music, where she taught Suzuki group violin.

Currently, Jennifer serves as the Suzuki Academy Department Head at The Music School of Delaware, where she teaches orchestra, private lessons, musicianship, and group classes.
