Jamie has been playing the Suzuki method since she was four years old, and started teaching her siblings as young as 11! For the past 15 years she has taught in the Vancouver/Portland area and even spent a school year teaching music in Oaxaca, Mexico. She had the privilege of studying under Naomi Blumberg in Portland and has taken Master classes with Renata Bratt, Daniel Muller-Schott, and Ann Grabe. Jamie enjoys exploring all sorts of music styles, from classical to bluegrass to jazz—even some rock and roll!

“I believe it is important to start your musical training with a solid foundation of technique. I begin by teaching my students to read music and help them develop their ear. With that base, I then show them how to use those skills to play the music they like to make. Music is about expressing creativity and sharing that expression with others. It is always best when your love of music is shared with others!”

Jamie enjoys teaching students how to think outside the box and try new things, while still employing the foundation of technique; she helps build in each and every one of her students versatility and creativity. Jamie always strives to make these important building blocks (scales, etudes, etc.) fun and exciting! She encourages and facilitates opportunities for students to build a solo repertoire and play with fellow musicians. Overall, she intends to provide future musicians with a balanced and inspiring learning experience.

Currently, Jamie teaches at her home studio in Vancouver, WA. Jamie has students of all ages, instruments and abilities. You’re never too young or too old to start learning an instrument that you love.
